At such a close distance to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, it would be a shame to not spend a good amount of time exploring this fantastic environment. You can hike through its many trails and search for howler monkeys, white-nosed coati, and resplendent quetzals. There are, however, a variety of other ways to immerse yourself in nature, including hanging bridge and canopy tours. Cultural enthusiasts will find trips to the coffee plantations and Monteverde Cheese Factory entertaining, as both places splice information on their specific trades with the history of the region.

The Trapp Family Lodge’s 20 rooms are homey and spacious. Hardwood floors reach from wall to wall and Venetian windows look out on the nearby rainforest. Local artwork hangs from the walls and brightens up the room, and wooden furniture provides guests with a place to sit, read, or write. All accommodations include a private hot water bathroom, telephone, and hairdryer. Certain suites also come stocked with a mini bar and TV, and have balconies that overlook the lodge’s tropical gardens.

The lodge operates a family-style restaurant and bar. Here, guests can enjoy a warm and hearty meal while looking out through large picture windows at the forested hills below. A balcony overlooking the lodge’s gardens extends outdoors, and a nearby lounge provides guests with a comfortable place to read or converse.
